Demystifying the Digital Marketplace
As the ever-evolving Internet and new technologies continue to develop and grow, the hospitality digital marketplace is shifting for travelers and the industry alike, from the consolidation of traditional online travel agencies (OTAs), new booking platforms enabled by digital connectivity, and the intermediation of group sales to the monetization of search engines. It’s become clear that technology is the silent force of change and new advances are driving consumer behavior. These innovation disruptors have created strategic challenges that the hotel industry cannot ignore. It is critical that the hotel industry understands the trends and costs of the distribution revolution that is underway in order to leverage growth and effectiveness, consumer relationships and legislative action.

The Greater Boston Convention & Visitors Bureau, in partnership with the Sheraton Boston Hotel, American Express, Massport, Macy’s, and the Massachusetts Office of Travel & Tourism, held a workshop on December 9 to share insights and analysis related to the rapidly growing inbound market to Boston from China.
